Artificially inflated depression rates in MTurk

Data collection from online platforms, such as Mechanical Turk (MTurk), has become popular in clinical research. However, there are also concerns about the representativeness and the quality of this data for clinical studies. In a recent study (in press for Clinical Psychological Science), we explored these issues in the specific case of major depression.

Miriam Babichenko and Christa Asterhan presented a paper at the multi-disciplinary and vibrant “Better learning through Argumentation” meeting organized by Roman Svaricek and Klara Sedova at Masaryk University, Czech Republic. The title of the talk: Productive dialogue in the classroom staff room: Moving from the study of student argumentation to peer-led, teacher dialogue in PLCs. Paper available upon request.

New grant awarded: ISF Center of Excellence

I am excited to announce that, together with Adam Lefstein, Dana Vedder-Weiss, Guy Roth and Hadar Netz, we were awarded a 5-year long Center of Excellence on Meaningful learning (funded by the Israeli Science Foundation). We will be working in close collaboration with practitioners to develop a program for, implement and study academically productive classroom talk in upper elementary Israeli schools.  

 

Start of a new joint project funded by the Israeli Innovation Authority

Together with Roi Reichart (Technion),  Baruch Schwarz and a very talented group of junior researchers, we will be developing automated detection tools for different types of psycholgical distress, based on an individual's online behavior. The project will run for 2 years (2017-2019), and is funded as a KAMIN grant.
